Firehouse Restaurant & Forge Motel
About This Spot
Nestled just off the quiet roads of St Clears, Firehouse Restaurant & Forge Motel unfolds as a humble yet familiar haven for travelers seeking a pause on their journey through Carmarthen’s countryside. There’s a quietly reassuring rhythm here—a place that feels held in time, where the hum of attentive staff and the warmth of the kitchen offer a steady, uncomplicated refuge.
As you step inside, the hum of conversation and the welcoming bustle of a working restaurant gently contrast with the stillness of the surrounding village. The mood is easy and unpretentious, where the focus leans toward hearty, generous portions served without fuss and a service style that blends efficiency with a genuine smile. It's the sort of spot where the comfort lies not just in the food — though the plates are undeniably satisfying, with a sense of generosity and local familiarity in each bite — but in the overall feeling of being looked after.
The motel rooms echo this straightforward hospitality. Functional and clean, they speak to travelers who value comfort over flash. Daily fresh towels and thoughtful touches like complimentary hot drinks bring a small but meaningful warmth to the stay. While the building carries hints of age and promises of updates, the care from staff shines through, smoothing over any rough edges. There’s a grounded friendliness here that makes guests feel more like welcome visitors than transient guests.
Firehouse invites those on the move to slow down just a little—be it a family discovering the Welsh coast, a solo adventurer tracing backroads, or local diners returning for a familiar meal. It’s a modest crossroads of warmth, nourishment, and human connection, quietly holding its place amid the unfolding landscape of Carmarthenshire.

Stayed here for five days, clean and functional rooms, nice to get clean towels every day (take note Premier Inn). Food, and service good, massive portions, good value for money. The only negative thing to say is the whole site could do with an update. Definitely wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

Stayed here on Saturday night with my husband and our toddler. We moved rooms a few times. Room 5 had ants nesting in the bathroom and the tiles around the bottom of the shower didn’t look great (see photos). Room 7 smelled of smoke. Room 10 was great! Cannot fault the staff. They were lovely and very apologetic. Complimentary bottled water and hot drinks on offer in the rooms were very much appreciated. The small pool was very warm - perfect for our toddler. Couldn’t work out how to switch the sauna on but it looked very inviting. Showers and changing areas for the pool were great. We had dinner in the restaurant. It was good, standard pub grub. Again, the staff were fabulous. The petrol station next door currently has 20% off vouchers for the restaurant valid until 30 June 2024 at the counter.

Good food, rapid service, value for money. The place looks shut, there's no menu outside and inside I'm greeted by 4 staff, all in black and no other customers. For a second I thought I'd chosen a mafia front restaurant (again) but, no, just the time of day and the place soon filled up. Within its class, this is an excellent place to pause on the long journey between home and western Pembrokeshire - I'll be back
